some recent amazon
purchases and bullet reviews....

yo la tengo and then nothing turned itself inside out
i had been wanting to get this one for quite awhile, but it just never was first and foremost. i am a moron. brilliant. why this isn't the biggest band in the world is just beyond me. absolutely lovely. yummmm...
yo la tengo (again) summer sun
is it as good as "..nothing.."? no. what could be? is it good?beyond a motherfucking doubt. a tonic for troubled times.
the supersuckers motherfuckers be trippin'
a pretty serious disappointment. there are 3 great songs here, "rock your ass" among them, but the rest is, dare i say it in reference to a supersuckers record, lame. an EP at best. how sad...
yeah yeah yeahs fever to tell
fuck yeah, dude. big lips, big gee-tars, big fun. fuck the naysayers. this is the shit
catherine irwin cut yourself a switch
catherine irwin is one of (dare i say the best?) songwriters in one of my all time faves, freakwater
and here she just shows everyone who cares to listen just how much of a total badass she really is. one of the great songwriters of our times, kids. no less.highly recommended
sam prekop self titled
genius. the guy from the sea and cake
puts out a solo record with help from the likes of jim o'rourke, et al and it so rules. beautiful, subtle, moving, lovely. music to lounge around in bed with the paper on sunday morning to. (added bonus: muted trumpets!) absolutely gorgeous...
the minus five down with wilco
remember when the term "pop" wasn't necessarily a dig? does the guy have a thing for "smile" era beach boys? yes. should we hold this against him? absolutely not. great pop songs expertly written and wonderfully produced. "retrieval of you" is one for the ages. and, yes, pretty much the whole wilco
crew does play on almost every song. so there.

steven brill after: how america confronted the september 12th era
informative. wonky. a good read. a little too tom clancy-esque in its format for my taste but well worth the effort nonetheless. for dorks such as myself.
sarah vowell the partly cloudy patriot
i am gonna marry that girl. a collection of essays and such. funny. poignant. insightful. touching. patriotic. shining. if i didn't already have someone lined up, or i thought that she would be even remotely intersted, i would make this film
with her. then of course, as i said before, i would marry her. we would have the grooviest children....
alan rosenthal writing, producing and directing documentary films and videos
the emperor constantine, if we are to belive the popular myth, had a vision, a dream one night, the night before a battle, where he supposedly saw a cross and a voice told him that through this he would conquer. he had his army paint crosses on their sheilds and the rest is history. this book is like that. "with this, conquer." that's what i plan to do.
ya hear that, georgie? i'm a callin' you out, boy!

there's more stuff in the pipeline. i'll keep ya posted.

rockin': yo la tengo "georgia vs. yo la tengo" (the soundtrack to the greatest porno film never made)
feelin': like a dork with a purpose.
Q: what does that make me?
A: pretty fucking dangerous, that's what.
or just super dorky.

we report. you decide...
