Friday, May 16, 2003 there is something oddly and wonderfully comforting in knowing exactly what you will be doing for the next three years or so. really. after all such krazy-ass turmoil over the past few months, i am at a place where it is really, finally clicking. this is it, kiddos, i am going to war for the next 3 years, to war. to the mattresses. to the longcoats. though very little of what i plan to do will be available in any way that could be used in the next election cycle, if i make the film that i want and know i can make, it could quite possibly influence the 2006 circus in ways that would almost certainly be a lot more interesting than if i had sat on my ass. that's for goddamned sure. there is a great line in alex cox' mythical epic of "coffee, guns and sexual tension", straight to hell , where the leader of the bad guys, after finding one of his own shot dead in the street, tells his droogs to "get the longcoats, boys." this is that moment for me. i feel very little humility or apprehension when i say that i feel as if i have to make this film for the very sake of the republic. what's more nutty even still is that in as regards to this film, i make no apologies as to it's blatant and absurdly cocky ambitions. none, dude. zero. this it. this is the time in the history of the nation where we "get our motherfucking spines on" and i am calling out some of my campaneros and pulling in every favor owed from some rather really amazing folks. the most absolutely inspiring thing is that so far i have discussed this project with perhaps 20 folks and i have yet to encounter anyone who was not only totally down, but who only has to say, "i'm in." this is it. get the long coats, boys. we ain't playin'. rocking: yo la tengo "tired hippo" feelin': as relevant as ever, as all get-out. posted by downtown | 5:57 AM |
